This work is focused on the description andthe interpretation of the major meteorological triggering factors that have caused these mass movements. The Association of Geologists and Mining Engineers of Cyprus in collaboration with the Hellenic Committee of Hydrogeology member of the Geological Society of Greece organize the 12th International Hydrogeological Conference, which will take place on October 14-16 October 2021 (note new dates), in Nicosia (Lefkosia), Cyprus. A DHE is made of two components: a Rainfall Event (RE) and a subsequent Damage Event (DE), resulting from floods and landslides triggered by rain. Depending on both Damaging Hydrogeological Events (DHEs) are defined as severe weather conditions during which heavy and/or prolonged rainfalls trigger landslides and floods on wide regions, causing damage to people and properties (Petrucci and Polemio 2009 Petrucci , and Pasqua 2012). A period of bad weather conditions due to prolonged intense rainfall and strong winds can trigger landslides, floods, secondary floods (accumulation of rain on surfaces with low permeability), and sea storms, causing damage to humans and infrastructure. As a whole, these periods of bad weather and triggered phenomena can be defined as damaging hydrogeological events (DHEs).
